About me
Hi, I'm Jonathan Nowell, a freelance musican based in Lincoln.
I trained at the City of Leeds College of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Music and went on to study for my Master's in Composition at Nottingham University, eventually returning to work in and around Lincoln.
I'm active as a composer and performer in a variety of genres, and much of my work involves passing on music to others - as well as leading workshops, directing choirs and ensembles, etc, I have taught music and music technology to primary-school children through to sixth-formers, and piano and keyboard to learners of all ages! I look after the music at Monks Road Methodist Church in Lincoln, and Christian music of one sort or another forms an important part of my work.
My portfolio includes choral items of varying complexity, for adults and children, and instrumental pieces for a variety of ensembles. I also work with electro-acoustic resources, and have designed live performances and installation pieces. Another area of my work is as a songwriter, mainly composing worship songs - see my Catalogue for a detailed list of printed material available, and my CDs, 'The Road Home' and 'In the Footsteps of David'.
I have wide experience of directing music for and leading worship. This ranges from local 'special' services to directing choirs or ensembles for large mission events, such as the Paul Field touring production of "Hopes and Dreams", and Luis Palau missions. I directed and wrote the arrangements for orchestral carols in Lincoln Cathedral for the launch J John's "Just 10" events in the city, and also led the worship band on the evenings themselves - an inspiring experience in every respect!
I give solo concert performances of my songs. These are in a lively, accessible style, and can make great 'non-threatening' evangelism events! More details here.
I am also available for workshops and training in church or school situations at competitive rates - for more details take a look here.
Commissions for new pieces are always welcome and consultation regarding music for worship in particular. If there's anything you need to know, please get in touch.
